Students at Granite Hills High School gathered in Mr. Holt’s classroom for a thrilling Clash Royale tournament that united the school’s mobile gamers. The event, organized by Holt, brought together 18 participants eager to compete.
The tournament was created as a fundraiser for the Class of 2028.
Clash Royale is a popular real-time strategy mobile game where players use cards to deploy troops, spells, and defenses. The objective is to destroy the opponent’s towers and win crowns.
Players competed in a single-elimination bracket. Each match required students to draft cards for their decks. Some participants noted that the format favored luck, as random card assignments occasionally put them at a disadvantage against their opponents.
In the end, senior Leo Espinoza claimed the championship by adapting to his opponents’ strategies on the fly. Runner-up Abram Ramos used a Golem deck, attempting a slow-building push to catch Espinoza off guard, but ultimately couldn’t prevail. The winner was awarded bragging rights and much more.
Teachers and students agreed that the tournament captured the interest of many students, who seemed excited to compete for the title. Organizers said they hope to host more Clash Royale events in the future, giving players another chance to test their standing in the GHHS rankings.
As the final match concluded, the classroom erupted with cheers and congratulations.
Participant Steven De Jesus offered a humorous take on the results: “He’s buns, he’s trash. He didn’t even beat me regarding skill; he just had a better gaming chair.”
Sore loser? Maybe. We’ll just have to find out if he can win the next time a tournament is held.
