The sun is out, the days are longer, so it is time to shed the layers and jump into your new spring wardrobe.
Throughout the years, fashion has changed, sometimes for good and sometimes for bad.
Last year saw trends like camoflauge, bows, Birkenstock clogs, jorts, and quarter zips take front and center.
Now, it is a new year with new clothing and new predictions.
This spring/summer is looking quite different, with skirts, fun pops of color, and floral prints moving front and center.
On the streets and down the halls, you can see the major impact these trends already have.
Emma Figueroa, this year’s best-dressed student at Granite Hills High School, as voted on by the students, agrees with this year’s new trends. She is happy to see fun colors making a comeback. She said it is fun to see different patterns, colors, and textures in clothing because it is a great way of expressing oneself through an outfit.
“A fit that I would like to see somebody try is color, something different, and stay away from basic fits,” Figueroa said. “Wear fun patterns and textures. Be unique and don’t be afraid to find your own thing. And don’t forget to accessorize.”
Polka dots, flowy lacy tops, and colorful shirts in bright yellow, hot pink, orange, and blue are trending. Don’t forget about the flowy skirts, mini skirts, and sequenced skirts for those sunny days.
Social media influencer and music artist Zara Larsson has started a mass social media trend expressing colorful clothing and makeup looks.
Larsson’s impact on summer trends is major. Larsson wears flowy, colorful tops and sequined skirts, and surrounds her aesthetic with the summer and its vibrancy. It is clear to see that whatever Larsson pushes on her social media platform will be duplicated by her many followers.
She is very active online and always on top of trends.
“Larsson is such an amazing artist and is actively online,” Granite Hills senior Zinahi Farfan said. “Larsson is always on top of social media trends and overall a funny person to get to know. I love how Larsson has had such an amazing impact on social media with trending, audios, and makeup looks. It makes social media platforms 10 times more fun.”
The girls have a lot to look forward to this summer, but it isn’t always easy for the guys.
Here are some no-nos for the boys.
For the boys, the clogs are a big no. Don’t be afraid to express yourselves; we know you don’t have much other than your fake designer (ouch). If you really want to impress a girl, you should start by at least wearing something nice. The Spider hoodies, Bape, Burberry shirts, and purple jeans aren’t going to cut it. Better luck next year.
Some tips for boys would include a plain t-shirt with an overshirt, baggy pants, chunky shoes, camo pants, and don’t forget to dress up the outfits with some nice jewelry. Again, don’t be afraid to express yourself with some different fits.
