Granite Hills High School held its annual club rush week during the early days of September.
During the Granite Hills Club Rush Week, clubs and other student-led organizations set up booths to promote what they do and recruit students to join. Students get to meet the current members and ask any questions they may have about the clubs.
The first day of Club Rush Week featured the service clubs Granite Hills has to offer. This is for clubs that do community service and events. The clubs included are MEChA, California Scholarship Federation, Cancer Awareness, Central Valley Project, Exel, Mental Health Club, Rotary Interact, and Z-Club.
Day 2 featured social clubs setting up their booths. These clubs can help with socializing, having fun, and playing games. The social clubs are Arts and Crafts, Gaming (E-sports), GSA, and Girls Who CODE.
Day 3 featured the clubs that are class-based. These clubs are the Academic Decathlon, GTV, Yearbook, Journalism, Class of 2026, Class of 2027, Class of 2028, and Class of 2029.
Day 4 featured Campus Culture & Leadership clubs. These clubs are mostly about school spirit and promoting campus culture. These clubs include ASB, LINK, and Spirit Club.
“Students are highly encouraged to participate in one or more clubs,” MEChA advisor Mr. Marquez said. “Being in a club brings a sense of belonging at school. It is a great chance to have fun with friends and to feel like you are a part of something bigger.”
High school has much more to offer than just going to class and getting good grades. It’s about taking time to learn about what you’re passionate about and getting to explore your different interests. Joining clubs helps you build connections with other students or people in your community.
Clubs can help bring out and develop new skills, which can be either personal or professional. Each of these clubs offers different experiences that can help you grow inside and out. They allow you to make long-lasting friendships with students who have similar interests, and can create a sense of belonging.
Granite Hills senior Mackenzie Contreras is involved in MECHA, Rotary Interact, and CSF.
“Students should join clubs to get involved in school,” she said.
Ms. Segura is an advisor for the Interact Club. She thinks there are many benefits to joining a club
“Joining clubs has multiple benefits such as making new friends, learning new skills, and helping your community,” she said. “For example, some pathways require community service hours, and clubs host events that would be able to help you out.”
Mrs. Ramos is a co-advisor for the Interact club.
“Students who join Interact have opportunities to help out the community and participate in different events that Interact helps out with,” she said. “Through these activities, you are able to interact with other Interact students from different high schools.”
Melany Acevedo is a member of MEChA, Interact, and Cancer Awareness.
“I joined these clubs because I wanted to get involved with school and wanted to help out my community,” Acevedo said. “I believe people should join clubs because it’s a great way to enhance their resume and make it look better.”
