Senior night is one of the most important nights of a student-athlete’s career. It’s the day they are recognized for the countless hours of practicing and competing against other schools.
It is one of the last times friends, family, and peers celebrate them. It symbolizes transitioning into a new chapter of their lives. It’s a bittersweet moment, starting anew but remembering the fun memories that were made and looking back at everything they accomplished.
Granite Hills celebrated seven seniors on this year’s volleyball team Oct. 14. These seniors were Nia Hermios, Andrea Armenta, Aaliya Osegueda, Leslie McClour, Iris Ceballos, Priseis Lopez, and
Alina Gurrola.
The volleyball team faced off against Corcoran and won in four sets 25-14, 15-25, 26-24, 25-21.
“Overall, the game was great, starring my seniors,” said Granite Hills coach Eddie Valencia. “They all stepped it up big time.”
The season is not over for the Grizzlies. They still have some work to do. They play at Lindsay on Oct. 22 and finish the regular season against Strathmore at home on Oct. 24.
Valencia was asked what he hopes to accomplish the rest of the season.
“Focus on the next game to try and get a playoff stop,” he said.
Hermios was happy to be able to win on senior night.
“I did good, my teammates did good and because of that we got the win,” Hermios said. ”
Hermios had a pleasant time playing volleyball at Granite Hills, rating her experience a 7/10.
“There were games we should have won but we didn’t,” she said. “Overall, I enjoyed my time on the team and making fun memories with the team.”
