Ivan Cornejo, 20, was born in Riverside, California and has been writing and singing since he was 8-years-old ever since he learned “La Bamba” by Ritchie Valens. It was his middle school heartbreak that helped him write more of his music.
He recently dropped his latest album titled “Mirada” on July 19, 2024. The album has 13 songs. The description on Apple Music says Cornejo describes the album as “that nostalgic summer night.” I actually agree with his definition because it brings back memories of fun and sad summer nights. It also makes sense since it was dropped during the summer.
My favorite song on this album is “Vuelve.” The song is about Cornejo asking for his ex-girlfriend to come back. One line that really grabs you is “Y pero ya vuleve, que sin ti la vida no se siente, dime que jamas te vas a enamorar de alguien mas.” In English, that means “come back because without you life doesn’t feel, tell me that you’ll never fall in love with someone else.” Other good songs on the album are “Sale Para Hacer Feliz” and “Mirada.”
Cornejo has three albums total. His first album was dropped in 2021 which was named “Alma Vacia.” Alma Vacia had 7 songs and the album in total is 25 minutes. Most of his music is about his ex-girlfriend and past life experiences. He writes his music to make everyone know they aren’t alone. We have all suffered from heartbreak.
Cornejo’s recognition started on TikTok when one of his songs blew up. “Esta Dañada” became a trend with couples posting their partner to lyrics from that song. It blew up so fast and that’s when I remember everyone starting to listen to him. People found out what his music was about and used it to cope with their problems. His music is about heartbreaks so people mainly listen when they are going through relationship problems. He has a big impact in people’s lives. Cornejo goes through the same problems as normal people and he makes them realize they aren’t alone.
Many people love his music because it’s so peaceful. His voice is calm and he always has the best background rhythm. I discovered him one time when I was on my sister’s Apple Music looking for songs to add to my playlist. I came across his song named “Corazon Frio.” I liked the song and I kept listening to it. Then I saw the trend going around and realized it was the same person who sang the song I loved. I continued to keep listening to him and now I’m a big fan.
I definitely recommend this album and all of his albums to everybody, especially if you’re missing that special someone.
