Homecoming week is quickly approaching, and students are getting ready for one of the most spirited times of the year.
This year’s theme is Grizzlies in Wonderland.
The school has planned five themed dress-up days:
- Monday: “I’m Late!” (Crazy/Mismatch)
- Tuesday: Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum (Twin Day)
- Wednesday: Tiny Alice Day (Dress up as a little kid)
- Thursday: Characters (Dress as a Wonderland character)
- Friday: Grizzlies in Wonderland (Grizzly Spirit day)
Along with the spirit days, the nominees for Homecoming Court have been announced. Students are excited to see who will take the crown, with all the anticipation leading up to the Homecoming football game on Friday, Sept. 26, against Orange Cove.
After the game, the celebration continues with the Homecoming dance in the Pyramid, giving students the chance to dress up, hang out with friends, and close out Homecoming week with a night to remember. Tickets for the dance are $7. The dance is open to all Porterville Unified students, but they must bring their identification card.

Q: Why would you make a good Homecoming King?
A: I would make a good HOCO King because I am very involved in school and actively trying to make the school better and more spirited.
Q: What clubs/activities/sports are you involved in?
A: I am involved with Band (Drum Major), ASB President, Link Commissioner, CSF, Spirit Club, Project Aware, Cancer Awareness Club, Interact Rotary, Senior Class Vice President, Varsity Tennis, Camp Create (Internship), and Instructor for Pioneer Middle School Band.
Q: What is a fun fact about you that people at school don’t know?
A: A fun fact about me that most people at school don’t know is that I volunteer at a local animal shelter.
Q: Who is a role model to you? Why?
A: A role model to me is my mom. My mom has made such a big impact on my life, from taking me to doctors’ appointments hours away and never hearing a single complaint, driving me to and from school almost four times a day, and supporting me in all my extracurriculars. She showed me what a true loving parent is and how I want to raise my kids in the future.
Q: If you were king of the world, what would you do?
A: If I were King of the world, I would start off by making all education free, making all health care free, and having someone make a mansion for me just as a little treat.
Victor Millan
Q: Why would you make a good Homecoming King?
A: I would be great because I’m friendly and involved in school activities, and I’m respected by students and teachers. As HoCo King I can bring people together, show school spirit and be a positive influence.
Q: What clubs/activities/sports are you involved in?
A: I do basketball, golf, #LEAD, #GROWTH, spirit club, intern, and CSET employment connections.
Q: What is a fun fact about you that people at school don’t know?
A: I play guitar. A lot of people think I’m just an athlete, but I’m not.
Q: Who is a role model to you? Why?
A: Coach Luther. He’s seen me grow and become a more mature person, taught me how to make ethical choices, and without him, I wouldn’t have a great work ethic. He taught me the value of working hard and taught me life lessons like integrity and resilience. Without these important aspects, I wouldn’t be able to overcome challenges and pursue my goals with a passion. His guidance was to treat others with respect and be a positive influence to follow.
Q: If you were king of the world, what would you do?
A: If I were king of the world, there would be no hate, all equality. I would make the world a better place. I would also be advocating for important issues and enforce sustainable forces in people’s daily lives. I would also address strengthening social connections and specific needs in parts of the world, like spreading kindness and positivity, and spreading kindness to people I’m ruling over.

Q: Why would you make a good Homecoming King?
A: I am the ideal HOCO candidate because I’m friendly, involved, and well-known. Also, I participate in events around school, demonstrating my dedication to show up to support others around school. Being homecoming king means a lot to me since it’s something I’ve thought about as long as freshman year. Overall, I’d make a great candidate and homecoming king for these reasons.
Q: What clubs/activities/sports are you involved in?
A: I am a part of the football, basketball, track, and CODE Pathway. Also, I am one of the football captains this school year.
Q: What is a fun fact about you that people at school don’t know?
A: A fun fact about me is that I used to be an anime kid when I was in middle school.
Q: Who is a role model to you? Why?
A: One of my biggest role models is Mia Nunez because she has a kind heart and motivates me to better myself. She’s the kind of person who makes you want to try harder and change for the better. Without her in my life, it would be way different; she keeps me from making bad decisions.
Q: If you were king of the world, what would you do?
A: If I were King of the world, I’d make sure I could help everyone. For instance, I’d want to give back to the community, helping the less fortunate. I’d do whatever I could to make sure no one went without food, a place to live, or a family to go home to.

Q: Why would you make a good Homecoming King?

I also involve myself a lot with community service, trying to give back to the community that has helped me grow into the person I am today.
Q: What is a fun fact about you that people at school don’t know?
A: A fun fact about me is that I am the oldest sibling in my family. This has always been a blessing as I am able to see all my little brothers and sisters grow up. However, being the oldest means learning a lot on my own. I have been able to achieve great things and hope to be a great role model for my younger siblings.
Q: Who is a role model to you? Why?
A: My biggest role models are my parents. They have worked harder than any other individuals in my life to provide for my family. My mother gave me my life, which I will never be able to pay her, but beyond grateful. My father has been able to guide me and show me how to achieve my goals on my own. Both my parents have gone through a lot, but never once gave up on me or our family. For that, I hope to achieve the things they have been able to accomplish. I hope to one day be able to pay for everything they have done for me.
Q: If you were king of the world, what would you do?
