It feels like Spring is in the air, but the Granite Hills High School winter sports season is still going strong.
History was made last week with three Granite Hills winter sports programs advancing to the Central Section championships.
- First, the boys soccer team fought for its spot with a 2-1 win over Tranquility on Thursday night. Senior Fabian Ruiz and sophomore Jesus Vasquez each scored goals – assisted by senior William Ruiz and junior Eduardo Avila. Junior Fransue Lopez finished the game with 14 saves as well.
- The Granite Hills boys basketball left Friday night standing tall. The Grizzlies faced off against No. 1 seed Exeter and left with a win with a final score of 45-41. Cruz Campos scored 16 points, and Noah Gudino scored 12 points. Sophomore Xavier Fernandez made two late free throws to help seal the win for the Grizzlies.
- And finally, the Granite Hills girls soccer team stood victorious against Wonderful College Prep Academy with a final score of 2-0. Goals were scored by seniors Angelique Gonzalez and Angie Torres. Senior Rocio Tecuapa also assisted with one of the goals. Senior goalkeeper Alina Soto saved the ball four times throughout the game as well.
It will be a busy week for the Grizzlies with all three teams playing in their respective championship games. Here is the schedule:

Girls soccer: No. 4 Granite Hills hosts No. 6 Riverdale at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Boys basketball: No. 5 Granite Hills plays No. 7 Strathmore at noon on Saturday at Selland Arena in Fresno.
